Get to Know...Bridgette Porto

Orlando Sales Manager

When did you start at Academy?
I just celebrated my 7th anniversary on September 18th. I was supposed to start earlier but hurricane Irma had different plans.

What did you do before working at Academy?
I was Senior Sales Manager at Gatorland Orlando.  I would travel the US with alligators, snakes, scorpions, and all kinds of critters, visiting clients and meeting people from all over the world.  Amazing people and very unique experiences. I’ve got some stories and all nine fingers :).

Orlando has become one of Academy’s strongest markets. What have the be keys been to developing business in the market the last few years?
Long term relationships! Academy’s name and reputation are known industry-wide and blending that with long term relationships made a great foundation here in Orlando. Orlando is constantly changing and growing. Being able to jump in on an opportunity with a moment’s notice is incredibly important and being able to also deliver amazing quality and service is paramount. For me, I’ve also found that getting involved goes a long way, too.  Being an active part of chambers, organizations, and even attending events that you’re not 100% sure you’ll even walk away with a connection – you’ll never know unless you go! – my motto! Orlando is a huge place but at the same time it is also a very small and tight-knit community.

What separates Academy from other companies in the Orlando market?
There are so many things!!  Our equipment – there is nothing more impressive than a huge move and you see nothing but silver and black wrapping around an event waiting to go!  Our drivers that make meaningful and caring relationships with the clients and teams that they service.  Our staff! From our 24-hour dispatch team - where this is an actual person who can help. Our sales force who continues to build relationships, maintenance who keep us running and looking good!  There are a lot of bus companies in Orlando. Some are good and some are downright scary!  Having a superior product and committed team make the difference.

What is the favorite part of your job?
As simple as it sounds, it is working with someone who has never booked a bus before.  There is something so cool about leading a customer through booking a bus.  I’ve met so many people who think that it’s so complicated and intimidating.  From brides, to cheer coaches, weekend warriors who can no longer drive, or that new teacher booking their first field trip; showing them the ease and creating a forever customer.  That, and any opportunity I have to work with the Special Olympics!  Working the Games in 2022 was a life-changing experience for me and for that I’ll be forever grateful to Academy!

What are you looking forward to in 2025?
When I started with Academy in the first Orlando Terminal, we had 10 buses and a few drivers.  Seeing the growth over the last few years has been beyond exciting and the reach in the Orlando community has been epic.  I’m looking forward to growing the relationships we have, finding new and exciting opportunities, and continuing to become the biggest and best transportation company in Orlando - and beyond!
